Häufig ist jedoch »ohne« im Latein. auch durch andere Wendungen zu geben, u. zwar: a) durch nullus im Ablat. mit dem bei »ohne« stehenden Substantiv, z.B. ohne Mühe, nul bi negotio: ohne Gefahr, nullo periculo. – b) durch Adjektive wie: expers alcis rei (nicht teilhaftig einer Sache, z.B. ohne Bildung, exp eruditionis). – carens alqā re (etwas nicht habend, z.B. civitas lege carens: und carensprincipio extremoque, ohne Anfang u. Ende) – nudus alqā re (eines Gegenstandes entblößt. z.B. urbs nuda defensoribus). – inops ab etc (ganz arm an etc., z.B. ohne Freunde, inops abamicis). – immemor alcis rei (nicht denkend an etc., z.B. cibi, quietis). – ohne Kinder, s. kinderlos. – c) durch besondere Adjektive oder Adverbien, die ein Entferntsein, Mangeln bezeichnen, bes. durch mit in... zusammengesetzte, z.B. ohne Kleider, nudus (nackt): ohne Mühe, facilis, Adv.facile (leicht, keine Mühe machend): ohne Testament, intestatus: ohne Einladung (ohne eingeladen zu sein), invocatus: ohne Überlegung handeln, temere od. inconsiderate agere. – d) durch die Negation mit Partizipien, namentlich mit dem Abl. absolut., z.B. ich will die Wahrheit sagen ohne Furcht vor dem Verdacht der Schmeichelei, quod verum est dicam non reverensassentandi suspicionem: ohne Festsetzung eines Termins, nullā praestitutā die: ohne Widerspruch der Natur, non repugnante naturā. – Ebenso nicht (nichts, niemals etc.)... ohne, non (nihil, numquam)... nisi, z.B. es wäre mir wahrlich ohne Erinnerung nicht eingefallen, non mehercule mihi nisi admonito in mentem venisset: Cäsar führte das Heer nie auf gefahrvollen Wegen ohne Erforschung der Örtlichkeiten, Caesar exercitumnumquam per insidiosaloca duxit, nisi speculatus locorum situs: nichts nützt Lehre u. Wissenschaft ohne Mitwirkung der Natur, nihil [1829] praecepta atque artes valent nisi adiuvante naturā. – e) durch bloße Ablat. absol., wenn »ohne« = nachdem oder wenn weggenommen u. dgl., z.B. ein Rumpf ohne Kopf, truncum corpus dempto capite od. abscisocapite: ohne bestimmte Angabe der Menschen und Zeiten, hominum et temporum definitione sublatā: was kann das Leben für einen Reiz haben ohne Freundschaft? quae potestesse vitae iucunditas sublatis amicitiis? – f) durch nisi oder ni fuisset (wenn jmd. oder etwas nicht gewesen wäre); z.B. die Brücke hätte beinahe den Feinden einen Weg gebahnt ohne einen Mann, den Horatius Kokles, ponsiter hostibus dedit, ni unus vir fuisset, Horatius Cocles. – g) ohne mit seinem Subst. durch ein Verbum, gew. mit der Negation, z.B. ohne etwas sein od. sein müssen, alqā recarere (z.B. initio): und principio extremoque); ohne jmd. od. etwas nicht sein können, alqo oder alqā re carere non posse (nicht entbehren können); alqā re egere (nicht haben und gern haben wollen); aber auch sine alqare omnino esse non posse (ohne etwas gar nicht bestehen können): jmd. ohne Unterstützung (Hilfe) lassen, alqm non adiuvare.
II) Adv. »ohne zu« m. folg. Infin. od. »ohne daß« mit folg. Tempus eines Verbums, muß im Latein. gegeben werden: a) durch die Negation und Partizipia, z.B. die Römer bieten den Griechen von selbst, ohne gebeten zu sein, Hilfe gegen den Tyrannen Nabis dar, Romani Graecis non rogati ultro adversus tyrannumNabim offerunt auxilium: ich habe nichts getan, ohne es lange bedacht und lange vorher überlegt zu haben, nihil feci non diu consideratum ac multo ante medidatum: er ging fort, ohne den Brief gelesen zu haben, abiit epistulā non lectā; übrig. s. die Beispp. vorher unter no. I, d. – b) durch besondere Adjektive, s. oben unter no. I, c. – bes. auch durch verneinende Adjektive, z.B. die Kleinen verraten oft manches, ohne zu wissen, worauf es abzielt, parvi saepe indicaverunt aliquid,quo id pertineret ignari. – c) wenn der Satz mit »ohne zu« oder »ohne daß« aussagt, daß gleichzei tig mit dem Mangeln an etwas etwas anderes stattfindet, wo man es mit »und nicht« vertauschen kann, durch nec (necque), z.B. viele loben die Redner und Dichter, ohne zu wissen warum (sie sie loben), multi probant oratores et poëtas neque intellegunt,quā re commoti probent. – Wenn aber der mit »ohne zu od. daß« folgende Satz als Wirkung und Folge des vorigen zu denken ist, so steht ut non od. (aber nur, wenn im vorigen Satze auch schon eine Negation steht) quin od. qui non, z.B. er will lieber für einen braven Mann gehalten sein, ohne es wirklich zu sein, als es wirklich sein, ohne dafür gehalten zu werden, mavult existimari bonus vir, ut nonsit, quam esse, ut non putetur: ich komme nie mit dir zusammen, ohne daß ich klüger weggehe, numquam accedo, quin abs te doctior abeam: ich für meinen Teil habe niemand, von dem ich wohl vermuten konnte, daß er zu dir kommen werde, fortgelassen, ohne ihm einen Brief mitzugeben, equ idem neminem praetermisi, quem quidem ad te perventurum [1830] putarem, cui litteras non dederim. – d) durch sine mit Abl. eines Subst., z.B. ohne zu klagen, sine querela: ohne es zu fühlen, sine sensu. – so zwar... aber ohne zu etc., ita... ne tamen (s.
